@German1184 The self decides which one of these transient mental states is given importance. The soul is the storehouse / aalaya of all elements/aspects taken from the impulses received by the senses. In the end, postive attitudes should triumph over negative ones. Therein lies true happiness. As Watts says, devas should make the better of narakas. Good day!

Thanks for posting. Of the ones I have heard, these are the most interesting of the talks on Buddhism by Watts.
