Yes that is correct that the word Ishmael does means God hears. However, in Genesis 16:12 the bible clearly says that Ishmael will be a "wild man". That word "wild" in the hebrew means wild ass. when i mentioned this i did not mention it as a literally definition but a characteristic. That does not mean that every muslim has this characteristice but we have seen acts from groups or sects of muslims that were savage.
