The 'it's not a copy' is in response to some eastern European companies making inferior unlicensed versions and even calling them CH701s.

Yes, most countries require a license: ultralight (ULM, microlight) in Europe, Sport Pilot in US, or private pilot licence (PPL). It depends on the rules / countries...

FAA requires a light sport pilots liscence. limited top speed, limited altiude, limited flight weather, etc.....

Yes, the Zenith STOL CH 701 has the distinction of being what is probably the most copied light aircraft in production... though they do say that imitation is a form of flattery (though we teach our kids not to mimic!)

Birds can't have slots in their wings (or all the blood drains out). It was mankinds idea to make a slotted wing.
