This is the first DVD in the Building Drive and Focus Series with Michael Ellis. The foundation of Michael's system lies in marker training. The power of Michael's system lies in how markers are applied and then balanced with corrections to establish reliability. The beauty of this system is that it establishes a method of communication with our dogs that is built on positive reinforcement. It is a communication system that is "black and white" to our dogs. you mean "charging the mark". The mark is the action you take, weather verbal, a clicking sound with a clicker,....etc to capture the moment when your dog does whatever behavior correctly. That mark signals the dog that a reward is coming. So at first you charge that marker by following with a reward (treat,toy, etc..) When you charge the marker you are not worried about any behaviors you are just teaching that the marker means a reward is coming.

Is "charging the marker" the same as what might be described early in "clicker training"?
