Mangan and Roger imitate the greatest catch in postseason history (sorry, Willie), Endy Chavez' leap to rob Scott Rolen of a home run in Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS between the Mets and Cardinals

-------------------------------
Update

In response to the many people who have commented that this is, in fact, not the best catch ever, I guess there can be some reasonable disagreement on the topic.

I think it's the greatest catch ever for a two big reasons:

1) The catch itself, physically, was the greatest catch I have ever seen. He raced to the wall, timed it perfectly, and leaped high enough to catch the ball and haul it back from two feet beyond the wall.

2) The context of the catch, in the game, was extremely important. It was Game 7 of an NLCS. The game was tied. The home run, had it happened, would have been a three run home run. At the time, it saved the game, the series, and the season.

Other catches have been physically great. Other catches have been important. Few catches have been both. No catch has matched this one.

  • In response to the zillion people who have asked, I was on the field as an intern at the Queens County District Attorney's office. Each year they have a Shea Day to show their appreciation for our work. It was a blast.

    Let's Go Mets.

  • you're a District Attorney? what law school did you go to?

  • I go to Brooklyn Law School currently. This was during my first summer after law school started when I was an intern.

  • Awesome vid dude, did any of the throws get to the infield? haha

  • Sadly, we had already thrown our one and only baseball over the fence already... so no, we didn't throw back in.

However, a major league ballpark is a lot smaller than you'd think in real life. I was making pretty routine tosses from the warning track to second base and I never even played in high school.

  • this isn't "the catch" you guys stole the term from jeter's catch where he jumps into the stands. it is a great catch but not "the catch"

  • Oh please. First off, "the catch", if there can only be one, is a catch in football. I believe it was a pass from Montana to Dwight Clark. Second, this catch is a million times better than Jeter's stupid leap into the stands, and there are about 100 plays a season that are also better.
