The internet and youtube and a little knowledge about what's going on outside of one's country might bring some peer pressure for American women to understand that pantyhose is not something from the past. (American women on not wearing pantyhose are like black sheep or like a sore thumb!) Because women around the world today wear even in random casual situations. @clogspantyhose, no one's going to argue with your points. Even in America, back in the 70s, pantyhose manufacturers tried to encourage women to wear pantyhose under slacks and jeans. No one in America knows for certain why the no-pantyhose fashion caught on nationwide. It seems that this fashion faux paus may have started in southern California where the hot, dry climate made wearing pantyhose uncomfortable for women. Fashionable female celebs revolted against ph and every woman followed.

@clogspantyhose, I'm going to agree with all your posts. In the U.S., women wore nylons & garters then pantyhose for approximately the entire 20th century until the 1990s when the no-ph movement started and gained widespread custom. Upon reflection I believe it was the growing fashion casualness and laziness on the part of the the ladies. Like many fashions, it's my belief that pantyhose will return. In the U.S., young ladies do wear patterned/textured ph as a leg art fashion statement.

Flashback, you're absolutely correct. It would take several well-known younger female celebrities to bring back pantyhose, if these young ladies would have to be seen and photographed by paparrazi wearing pantyhose to the posh LA and NY nightclubs, red-carpet engagements, et al. Hollywood could help out by depicting actresses wearing pantyhose on television and movies as before.

@jeffyoung60 Celebrities would not be enough. Peer pressure and what's at home would. If a little girl sees her mom and sisters wear pantyhose at home she will do the same. If she sees her friends do it she will do the same. This starts in the home and the environment people are raised in. Where I live women are is seen wearing pantyhose.
