This is a home made log splitter I made in my spare time. I bought the metal at a scrap yard for $0.15 cents a pound. I used a Lincon 225 welder, Chop saw, hand grinder and a acetylene torch in the build. The frame started with piece of pipe for a axel. Then I welded new hubs on the end. I put used wheels and tires on it. I made a frame out of 2 X 2 square tubing and put a floor on made out of pieces of 1/8" diamond plate steel. Well you can watch the video for the rest. I want to thank all the people that posted videos on YouTube of their splitters. I watched them before I started mine. I am in Tennessee. This is my first video, so if the quality is bad I am sorry. If you have any questions I will try and answer them.
Enjoy

  • very nice would you be interested in selling this one or one like it?

  • Thanks for the comment. I just build this splitter and also just built a 4 way splitter that slips over the single wedge and it is very sentimental to me if I were to sell this splitter I would have to ask about 5,000 for it.

  • @woodwalker312 what about building another one similar to this?

  • I probably would not be interested in building another one like this. I dont have access to new metal. I normaly look at scrap yards to find the metal. I don't have a shop I actually built this one in a shed it took about 5 months to build because I work a full time job.

  • How much do you think that last log weighs?

  • I think it probably weighs around 350 pounds.

  • Nice job, it does look store bought quality. I might make one of these for my next project, it looks right up my street! Homemade is best for sure!

  • I keep coming back to this video. As soon as I buy a welder I'm building one just like this. Thanks again for posting this , awesome splitter

  • good job........... you got a 2 stage pump ?

  • Great craftsmanship! Very nice splitter. Put a 16 or 21gpm pump and widen the wedge at the very tip and you can get those cycle times cut in half. With wide wedge

wood is usually completely split within 2" of contact

  • @hondariders22. It looks to me like he got the hydraulic cylinders and valves from Northern Tool.

  • Great Job.... what size bolts did you use to attach your log lifter to the H-beam?

  • This is a great splitter that you designed there! I really like the log lift. I will make one similar to yours. I have a piece of 8x10 rectangular tube that was given to me, so I will use it as a combo base and hydraulic oil reservoir. Also will use Aeroquip reusable hydraulic hose fittings for an instant spares program. Well done!

  • Great job. You seem to have the best one I have seen. Everything works well. A+++

  • Do you have the build plans?

  • never seen one with a lift before your better put a patent on that idea quick
