@ChiefOren Western music is also influenced by Jewish modes. Israel is closer to Greece and Italy than it is to say China or India.

YOu said in another of your videos that apparently the Israelis at the time of Christ or even before hand may well have made their strings from sheeps intestines. If that's the case surely you'd get a more original sound if you did the same? Just a thought!

The Basic answer is because the definition of Work that can't be done on Shabbat is the work that was done in the Beit Hamikdash, the holy temple.

Thank you !
I haven't heard it in a while but remember the arppegiations.
Thats the benifit of being a musician
you remember music.
The greatest instrument is the mind.
Make no graven images of things even in your mind.
Return to the Sovering One.
Return to the ancient hebrew mind.

if you want you can go to jewish answers (dot) com and find out

Not allowed to fix things on shabbat, and if a musical instrument needs fixing, it would be tempting to break that law.
-
Its cool that they would lay on the Shabbat - why do not Jews of today play music on sabbaths?

Awesome! Love the sound of your Kinnor. Sounds like nylon strings? The kinnor I'm using in my Israeli reggae band has a more metallic tone, nice for some things but not an "authentic" sound per se.
Keep on making music!!

I would respectfully like to ask the maker of this lyle, why he tuned the lyle to the western ear. Would it not be more likely to be tuned to the Arabic cant? Just a thought, but historically I do not think there are any real way to be certain how the lyle was tuned. I would like your opinion on the subject.

I have written a blog on my Myspace site called "King David's Lyre", with lots of information on my reseach into finding "authentic" sounding tunings for my replica of the Kinnor Lyre, based on scales found in traditional Jewish music, and comparisons to the original 3000 year old Biblical scales, which were deicphered by Suzanne Haik Vantoura

this is the first time I get some idea about ancient Jewish temple music although I've read the Psalms many times over the years . thank you very much for your sharing.

It is now possible to actually HEAR the original Jewish Temple Music! Check out the Youtube Channel "teamim" - this is dedicated to broadcasting the ORIGINAL music once sang by the Levitical Choir in the Temple of Jerusalem - thought to be lost for almost 2000 years after the destruction of the Jewish Temple, but painstakingly rediscovered once more, by the late Suzanne Haik-Vantoura!

If you go to my Youtube Channel Page, check out my 2 featured videos copied from the "teamim" channel - "The Music of the Bible Revealed - Numbers 6:22-27"; the ORIGINAL music of the Priestly Blessing, , once sang over 2000 years ago, in the Temple of Jerusalem...one of the most beautiful melodies I have ever heard

I thought (king) David als had a harp.

The instrument I am playing is just 1 possible interpretation of what the mysterious Biblical "Nevel" actually was, which is often mistranslated fromt eh Hebrew as "harp". My repllica is based on the Hebrew root of "Nvl" meaning "carcass" ie a lyre with a skin membrane). Please read my blog on my Myspace page,"King David's Lyre"(URL link to this on my Myspace Channel Page) - there is plenty of contemporary illustrations, on the other hand, of the Biblical Kinnor Lyre...
