I also get into the Bonus Stage because I had all of the Lums and Cages from the Marshes of Awakening. I win it so I get three golden powerups (more powerful shots, but if you are hit three times you lose them).

Also Ubisoft fails at voice acting and text dialog.

in the PS2 version, is that Ly's face instead of the cage up in the corner?

In the PS2 version Ly's face appears once you get enough cages to unlock one or more bonus levels. If you don't have enough then it's just the blue icon, which is the familiar spirits. You can see this in the first video.
