I once heard a tale about a boy who loved a girl.
And he spent all his time and money trying to change the world.
For many years they bathed in bliss, their love a thing sublime.
They swore to love no other one until the end of time.
Every single time they met, he would softly say,
Mark my words, I shall return, and with you sail away.

The oath it was enough for them, their lives unsullied sheets,
Blowing in the summer wind, knowing no defeat.
And its. etc

The boy left home to see the world and bring it back someday,
He woke before the sunrise, and ten years was away.
He built up a fortune, and round the world did roam,
And when he had enough he turned and set sail for his home.
His ship sailed filled with diamonds, but landed filled with rage.
The girl he had left behind had since become engaged.

Time has broke their sacred oath, now theyre both alone
Falling ever farther from promises intoned.
And its etc.

I come to you across many-dangered waters,
The boy grown to a man unto his love did say.
And I have brought the world upon a silver platter
If you would only come away with me today.

Love I feared you lost, but here now you appear again,
A resurrected ghost from a dream I nightly had.
But here I must remain, and this man I must marry.
I cannot sail away, my darling be not sad.

I must away, the captain said as he climbed aboard,
And now we sail for further seas in hope of further shores.
And its etc.

And so he turned his ship around and set sail for the sunrise
Down past the horizon to tunes of teary eyes.
The girl she stood upon the shore and watched the ship depart,
She said, he leaves with diamonds, but also with my heart.
The boy was never seen again in any land of men,
The girl grew old in mourning, and never loved again.

And sometimes when the moon was right, shed swear that she saw sails,
Just past the horizon, but then her eyes would fail.
And its etc.
