@gregrutz If you were to go around the Earth, how would you do it? You would have to Circle it, even though it is three dimensional. Circumnavigation is to navigate around an object--circle it. The circle of the Earth is a broader term than the two-dimensional one you have embraced. My children still call spheres circles. It is a matter of conceptualization for the writer. So, just because the writer said it is a circle, does not mean that he was told that it was flat...

Rome kept records of all court proceedings--the Acts of Pilate, referenced by Epiphanius, Tertullian and Justin the Martyr in his First Apology, all referenced a known Roman archive describing Jesus available to the Senate and Caesar. They existed until at least AD 140. Jesus had little if any personal belongings. He survived on the donations of his followers--surely you will not find any archaeological remnants of his personal possessions.
