  • According to ASCAP, authorship of this title is J. Rosamond Johnson and Bob Cole.

Some people, mistakenly, believe W. C. Handy is the author because, Johnson used the pseudonym Will Handy on this title.

  • not a Handy tune, but by black NY show composers Bob Cole & J. Rosamond Johnson, 1902 (bios in wiki)

  • Thanks guibanvio,Ille try and look it up.Daveyfiddler

  • @daveyfiddler The North Carolina Ramblers performed an interesting old-time version of this song. It can be found along with 15 other tunes on County Records CO-CD-3501.

  • I heard this was an American version of "The Derby Ram" a favourite English folk song of mine,so aim to perform both versions back to back in sessions,if can find a fiddle or Old timey version of it. The words are a bit similar, the English version is definately a male sheep, the New Orleans version could be a drinker or" man about town"

  • Best Creole composer ever lived.... La chez pas a patate ..la Louisiana !!!!

  • Sublime!

    Where are their like today?

Many thanks for posting this wonderful performance by two of the truly greats.

  • this is the theme to slam bang theater from Dallas Texas KTVT with Icky Twerp! Yay!

  • Very nice.
