The Faroe Islands (Faeroe Islands) located in the North Atlantic, roughly between Norway and Iceland. These islands have been an autonomous province of Denmark.

The people of these picturesque islands traditionally gather their food from the sea as many island inhabitants around the world do. Part of their sea sustenance comes from hunting whales. Recently a scientific body issued a report detailing large amounts of mercury can be found in whale meat. Surprise, surprise! Since whales live longer than most sea creatures, it is only natural they would have a higher level of mercury than a creature with a much reduced sea life expectancy. Since children of these islands consume whale meat, a warning has been issued.

Captain Kangaroo of Sea Shepherd not one to miss a public relations opportunity, called the people of the Faroe Islands barbaric for feeding this whale meat to their children. However Sea Shepherd in their desire to save the children of the Faroe Islands has not yet sent their garbage scow with Cabin Boy and the girly men playing pirate to interfere with the whale hunts in the North Atlantic.

This timid reaction by Sea Shepherd can be traced back to the 1980s when Sea Shepherd did indeed attempt to foil the whale hunting by the people of the Faroe Islands. Sea Shepherd was met with hostility and some of the crew met with fisticuffs, Marquis of Queensbury rules not withstanding. The girly men took their garbage scow, left the islands and have not returned these twenty some odd years.

  • Sea Shepars should focus more on the source of the mercury, from England, than harrasing the people of The Faroe Islands!

  • @DrCanyonero (The numbers are per year)

  • @vitalscuba They slaughter about 0.1 - 0.2 % of the entire population and about 1 % of the ones around The Faroe Islands and they are not endangered. If this is the case or similar, I think it's okay to kill an animal. I just think we should be thankful that the good people in The Faroe Islands havn't gone commercial and selling the stuff building an industry. Imagine if they were Americans.. Or was that a bit too harsh?

  • @vitalscuba seriously get you're facts right, there are around a 100.000 whales around the faroes, AND we kill around a 100 each time...

  • @vitalscuba Hey I'm actually faroese :(

  • @DrCanyonero They slaughter entire pods of whales, how can that pod reproduce faster in the ocean? They aren't just taking a few whales out of the pod, but decimating an entire community... it's really disturbing to think that this is ok. As for the pigs, from an ethical standpoint it's no better than killing pigs, shouldn't do that either. However, pigs are FARMED, thus have sustainable numbers - raise a pig, kill it. Not so much with the whales, BIG difference.

  • @DrCanyonero ... though it's pathetic that the Faroe's want all the Danish benefits and money, but don't want to be bound by the same rules.

  • @DrCanyonero while there is no official stance by Danes, I think most Danes are pretty much neutral or just flat out don't know or care about it. I visit Denmark often (extended family there) and have discussed it with a lot of people of all ages, most just don't really care... and those that do care, are against it... never met a person who supports it other than you. Danes seem more concerned about Albi than the whales. Tak.

  • You are hilarious and full of truth good sir.

  • @LTPaiulellA I have yet to hear a single good argument why this is cruel or more cruel than the slaughter of other animals. They even give out the meat for free!

  • @ghettoboxerb222 "The Entire Denmark rejects this annual event" - Lies.. I don't think you know what you are talking about. There is no unity or official Danish view on this. And I myself support this as a Dane.

Jeg kan ikke forstå hvordan du kan give hele Danmark den samme holdning som dig uden belæg for det.
