OPERATION SAFED SAGAR (1999 KARGIL WAR) - INDIAN AIR FORCE AT IT'S BEST

Operation Safed Sagar was the codename assigned to the Indian Air Force's strike to support the Ground troops during Operation Vijay in the 1999 Kargil War that was aimed to flush out Regular and Irregular troops of the Pakistani Army from vacated Indian Positions in the Kargil sector along the Line of Control. It was the first large scale use of air power in the Kashmir region since the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

However, initially, after losing a Mi-17 helicopter at Tololing, and a Mig 21, and Mig 27 each shot down, IAF made a drastic change in its strategy. With the Israeli's providing around 100 Laser-guided bomb kits to the Indian Military, the air force chose to make maximum use of this and retaliated with regular sorties on Pakistani occupied bunkers. At this crucial point, the IAF Mirage 2000 and Mig 29's came into a decisive play. The aircrafts operated at 10,000 meters AGL (33,000 feet above sea level), well out of MANPADs range, leading to a drop in the accuracy rate of the bombs. The low number of airstrips for take off and landing of the flights also constrained the efficiency of the attacks. Despite this, there were hundreds of sorties on the intruders with no further material or personnel casualties enabling a gradual takeover of the mountain posts by Indian troops. According to IAF the "air strikes against the Pakistani infiltrators, supply camps and other targets yielded rich dividends."

By July all the remaining intruders had withdrawn and the operation was ended, being declared a huge success by the IAF in having achieved its primary objectives

It is clearly mentioned in the video t PAF's F-16's made 2 attempts in kargil to help its losing army, but failed on both occasions decisively - In the first attempt, they were successfully chased back into pakistan by IAF's MiG 29's, but when they dared to repeat that blunder, 2 F16's were shot down by the same MiG 29's.

This was never covered by paki media, bcoz it would have completely exposed the role of porki forces in kargil

@partyexposed you're an Idiot. One mig 21 was shot with a stringer, not anti-aircraft guns. Other mig crashed due to engine failure.

And please, PAF lacks both in terms of numbers, technology, manpower, training and equipment.

@partyexposed Ur F-16's made two attempts to enter Kargil during the war - but on both occassions, their attempts were a complete failure. In the first attempt, they were successfully chased back into ur territory by IAF's Mig 29's and mirage 2000, but when they dared to repeat the same attmpt second time, two of ur F-16's were shot down by IAF's Mig 29's, after which, PAF realized that it is no match at all for the mighty IAF, and hence pulled out of Kargil altogether for good
