[Joe's POV cont]
I mean, nobody but one person would know where Cody and I were, and even then, they could tell anyone that asked that we were taking a break from recording in order to pursue other interests. My stomach started to feel better as I thought about that. Maybe this wouldnt be so bad.... I mean, a new town, new life. The only low point would be that I would have to go back to school. I mean, I technically already graduated school, but I would be posing as a 17 year-old, a junior. I don't think there would be the problem of anyone recognizing me at my new school anyway. The Jonas Brothers were VERY popular in Europe and Asia, but we hadn't branched over to the US yet. We were actually planning to have a meeting about that after I got back to England from this visit with Cody to his record company. I got kind of excited....an extended stay in the US. I would have to work on getting rid of my accent. I wonder where my transcript would say I moved from. I would have to find out before we arrived so I could get into character. I smiled to myself as I felt my eyelids getting heavy. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all.
[Cody's POV]
I hobbled back down to my room on my crutches as best I could. I had hoped Joe would've came to see me before now; we had been in the hospital 3 days. But I just found out that this was the first time Joe had awaken since we were knocked out; I'm glad he's okay. But I just wish he didn't agree so quickly to be placed in separate locations; yeah, it may be safer, but does 17 years of friendship mean nothing to him?! I mean, we're practically brothers! I sighed as I went through my doorway and got into bed, pulling the covers over me. I would do this for Joe because this is what he wanted, but that didn't mean I have to like it.
~~Later that day~~
Mr. and Mrs. Jonas walked slowly and quietly into Joe's room. He must've heard them, though, because as soon as they reached his bedside, he turned slowly and said groggily, "Mom? Dad?"
"Hey buddy," Mr. Jonas said softly. "How are you feeling?"
Joe smiled. "Better now that I've slept some more, thanks. When do we get to leave?"
"Sweetheart, I know you don't like this, but we can't go anywhere until they deem you fit to travel," Mrs. Jonas said, moving the hair away from his forehead.
"So where are we going?" Joe asked, sleepily.
"Well....." Mr. Jonas said.
"PAUL!" Mrs. Jonas yelled, slapping his arm. "NOT HERE! For goodness sakes, you don't know who's listening! Honestly." She turned back to Joe. "We have a meeting with our FBI Agent as soon as you are allowed out of the hospital, and then you'll find out where we're going. In the meantime, you have someone here that wants to say goodbye."
"Joe?" Cody said softly, hobbling into the room.
"Cody? You came back," Joe said softly, still trying to wake up.
"Yeah. Joe I feel awful about the things I said to you earlier. You're my best friend and I should respect your wishes. I guess I acted the way I did because.... because I'm really going to miss you."
"Cody, I'm going to miss you, too. I mean 17 years of friendship all coming to a stop here. "
"Joe don't say that," Cody said, shaking his head and trying to hide the tears threatening. "Promise, even though we're separated, that we'll always stay friends, okay? I didn't want you to leave you with a memory of me acting childish. I want us to still be brothers," he said, hobbling up to Joes bedside.
"Cody, we are brothers. Now and forever," Joe said, reaching his hand out for Cody and him to do their secret handshake.
"Cody?" A female in a business suit said at the door. "It's time to go."
"Looks like you won't be too bad off," Joe said, chuckling.
Cody slapped his arm. "She's at least 10 years older than me! But since you're thinking like I was, do you really think she'll go out with me?"
"NOW MISTER!" the agent demanded, pointing at the doorway.
"Feisty," Joe observed quietly. "Hey Code?"
"Yeah?" Cody said, bending his head down when Joe motioned him to.
"Not a chance," Joe whispered in his ear.
"Thanks for the support, bro," Cody said, rolling his eyes. "It will be fun though. Trying."
"Bye Cody," Joe said, as Cody began to hobble towards the door.
"Bye Joe. Thanks for everything Mr. and Mrs. Jonas," Cody said, reaching the doorway and taking one last look back before walking through it.
Two days later Joe was released from the hospital. He hadn't heard from Cody since he left Joe's room, so Joe assumed he was all ready on his way to his new location. Joe sighed as he was wheeled out to the limo waiting for them outside the hospital. "Wow guys, this is unexpec....AHHH!" Joe said as the limo left the curb.
"JOSEPH!" Mrs. Jonas said, so startled that she had spilled her drink. "What's gotten into you?"
"Wh---who are you?" Joe asked, pointing at the man sitting in the shadows across from him.
"Hello Joe," the man said, smiling.
