@theartfulbodger I'll have a look. I have a furnace (actually building a second, one is in my videos).

What was the second pour? Just a form of ingot?

thanks Art

What type of crucible do you use for cast iron? Silicon carbide, clay-graphite...?
zhmapper 6 months ago
Clay / graphite, silica carbide gets eaten by the iron slag but also they have a lower working temp With a furnace that gets as hot as mine there is always the risk of going for nice hot fluid iron and wrecking the crucible.
Don't skimp with quality when it comes to iron, buy a good crucible that won't let you down. It's hot stuff to have running around your feet!

How does the burner work? Is it a simple drip-injector design or does it atomize?

Hi, it's a gravity fed system which atomizes, all the details to build this furnace are in my book. Have a look at my site for details.

seams a little smokey when you turned off the air?! Ha it does smoke a bit.
marieomagpie 2 years ago
It burns very clean for the most part, but when the fuel and air are turned off there is a short period of smoke. This is due to a little oil being left in the oil pipe, when the air is turned off the heat from the furnace goes back up the oil pipe and causes the oil to expand and run into the furnace when there's no air to allow it to burn. By removing the assembly as it's turned off this smoking can be reduced to a second or two.
