In the mid-80s I'd sit outside before my turn came up and listen to his voice lessons with Hans Kagel in Rahlstedt, near Hamburg. It was all there already then. A flexible and noble heart to the voice - Mozart was what he was liked for early on.

@visse264 It indeed is surprising, isn't it? He wasn't always singing the heavy repertoire. I have a recording of Mozart's Entführung, in which he sings Pedrillo!

Having heard him in the Aix-en-Provence Walkure as Siegmund, I am pleasantly surprised by the flexibility of his voice. Fantastically sung. Great music, too.

hi my friend!, i had not seen this video. i did not know Robert Gambill. thanks for sharing.
: )
I had not heard Graun's "Cleopatra & Cesare" before. I really like it. This and the other clip you posted (All'armi) are excellent.
Robert Gambill is an excellent singer.

oh..thank you for your kind comment...
Yes, Robert is indeed excellent singer, and whole cast in this recording (including great conductor Rene Jacobs)too...
Yea, "All'armi" is one of my favourites pieces in baroque...so expressive, so fast, so brutal, and so beautifull...
Greetings :)
