He starred as Dr. Marston in this 1977 action thriller. Here is a nice clip of him speaking German.

  • Thank you very much for sharing this treasure! As a native speaker of the German language, I have to say that Gordon's German is very good and it's definitely a lot better than the nanny's in Blackout.

  • @angelfish45 You're welcome. I wonder if Gordon actually knew German in real life. I'm sure he must have done as he speaks very fluently in this and Blackout. A couple of my friends were good at German at school and my brother had a few German pals.

  • @finnhere2 I know what you mean. Both my brother and I were good at French at school. We both got an A at GCSE level and I could have taken it at A Level but you needed to have access to satellite TV because there was a French channel that was necessary for the studies so I couldn't do it. Both my brother and I knew that you need to make certain pronunciations to make your French sound convincing lol.

  • @Banner1979 My aunt, born Finn, after 40 years of living in English-speaking countries, sounds a little like upper-class snob when she speaks English as her way of talking is slow and precise. But the way she speaks French, she sounds terribly more English than she sounds speaking English! I can't understand it, and after five words of her "French" I'm holding my tummy laughing. Which maybe is the reason she doesn't speak it with me any more... *grin* But it's so "Franglais" that it's hilarious!

  • @finnhere2 I know what you mean lol. His German was very fluent indeed and yep, you're right, it's that Scottish brogue which characterised the way he spoke very well, although he came across very convincing when he spoke another language.

  • @Banner1979 My mother could tell you it's dangerous to spoil me LOL Yeah, Blackout, of course. For a Brit, Gordon really sounds fluent with his German, and his French in DIAG also lacked "Britishness", maybe it's the Scottish influence *grin*

  • @finnhere2 Am I? Must be doing something right then ;). The episode you are talking about is Blackout from series 4 where the nanny was called Gerda Helm and Bodie & Doyle took her to the place where she escaped from so that they could jog her memory.

  • OH!! you are spoiling me, Banner!

Funny enough, although I'm no German speaker, in that one Pros-ep (can't remember the name) to my ear, mr Cowley's German sounded more convincing that the German of the "native" nanny.
