This the story of the 1995-1996 Pittsburgh Penguins. Mario and Jagr each scored over 60 goals in the regular season, but the team fell to the upstart Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference Finals in seven games.

  • this loss haunted me for the next decade, along with '93, which still haunts former penguins on that team like stevens and tocchet.

think about it. '93 = lemieux vs. gretzky

'96 = lemieux vs. sakic, or yzerman

people think the nfl invented parity . . . WRONG

when it comes to hockey (and soccer), ANYTHING can happen. we invented the concept of parity. the age of free agency and arbitration only came around in the last 15 years and are the reason other sports have caught up to hockey

  • 1996 was so disappointing. i didn't even watch the finals that year, and i didn't miss much.

  • Pens own the Rags in the postseason 4-0 and 16-4 all time against The Rags in the postseason

  • The 1996 was absolutely sick! Lemieux, Jagr, and Francis tallied over 100 pts each and combined have over 400 pts. Sick! This team should have won the Cup. I didnt realize or maybe had forgotten that Francis was out for the series vs the Panthers. This team ranks 2nd to the 93 team of teams that should have won. But rejoice, the Pens are back on top of the world. Thank you Crosby and Malkin! Those 2 are great but Lemieux and Jagr are 2nd to none!

  • I love Jagr !!

  • 7:34...the sickest moment in my life. Until the Penguins won the Stanley Cup last year, this is the story I'd tell everyone about...this moment really defined my memories of hockey, in a bad way.
