@bigplayer2382 Because WMD's were just a pretext for launching the invasion. The goal was to get rid of Saddam Hussein who was threatening to switch to the Euro and make sure Iraq reached it's maximum production capability and that the fields were liberated and distributed among the multinationals.
-
@bigplayer2382 if Iraq wasn't capable of owning weapons where does that leave the USA?? The USA used Napalm and Agent Orange in Vietnam, leaving little children dead or with severe damage, and used DU in most wars since, again leaving malformed babies and thousands of casualties including it's own soldiers.
-
@LoneW0lfWinter okay, either way, they prooved to not be capable of owning any sort of weapons so the UN applied 19 rules to Iraq after the gulf war, and if any 1 was broke it was enough reason to declare war again. they broke 17 of the 19. But what does this have to do with "going to war for oil"
-
@bigplayer2382 Because the infrastructure was poor after decades of war and economic sanctions. look at Iraq now, the production is at a 20 year high, and there are still areas to be drilled and discovered. the removal of Hussein and the pacification of the country during the last few years means all that drilling and export can go ahead. Before the attack on Kuwait, Iraq was exporting 3.5m barrels, but now they're talking about 10m barrels or more.
-
@bigplayer2382 I'm not talking about conventionnal weapons. I'm pretty sure they used mostly Soviet equipment anyway. What they got from the US and the other countries I mentionned was advanced computers, radioactive materials, all kinds of chemical weapons and germ cultures, etc.

@LoneW0lfWinter if you look at the charts 2001(before the war) was the highest production of oil in the whole war. which raises the global oil prices because less supply of it. Now why would we try and topple an unstable government if it doesnt benefit anyone in the world, at all? Whether we have a leader in favor of America or not doesn't matter if global oil prices are higher then normal. We went to war to prevent another threat in case they had WMD (which everyone thought)
-
@LoneW0lfWinter valid point, we did build up their WEAPONS (not WMD) up until 1989 mainly because of the iraq-iran war. Then when Iraq became oil hungry and invaded Kuwait and tried to invade saudi arabia, we taught them a lesson THEN found them to unstable to still posses the weapons we funded them. So we tried to take it back, simply gave them to much power so we removed it form them. now google search "iraq oil production" or export and look at those charts that are facts
-
@bigplayer2382 it's not about physically sucking the oil out and hauling off to the US, rather getting rid of an unreliable government that's sitting on a huge oil supply that is important to powerful multinationals and the global economy. it's not the first time this has happened, in Iran a democratically elected government was toppled by the West because they planned to nationalise the oil industry and replaced him with a puppet.
this documentary should be showed in every classroom...
