  • Did you ever see the interview with the writer? He said they wrote this more or less on set, last minute, and then the director shot it WITHOUT the pause and freaked out: "This doesn't work at all!" The writer had to tell him, "No, no, you've got to pause - cut to Bogart, cut to Raines, cut to Bogart, cut to Raines, THEN the line." Perfection, but scary that the director couldn't figure that one out for himself...

  • A major slap to the 1 muppet whom does not like this

  • @BearyHairy Thank you for your comments. Not many know that we partially owe our independence from Great Britain due to the $200 million that France spent on our independence mainly bankrupcting the government of France under the rule of King Louis XVI. Check out Lafayette on wiki. He was buried in France and the soil from Bunker hill was spread on his grave.

  • Interesting shot at the end, Claude Rains was five foot six, and Bogie looks the same height, unless he is wearing his lifts!

  • The script was written day to day for this movie. Made it real tough on the actors, especially Bergman, since no one knew till the final scene who would end up with who.

  • @BearyHairy Totally man. Not saying America SHOULD hate France, it's just a common stereotype over here that it does. I'm sure a great deal of Americans are grateful to the French. And as I said I think the joint patriotism in this movie is great.

  • @squidloveful I really don't think the US hates France, do you? The US owes its independence from Great Britain to France from 1776 on, with money and troops. In 1889 France bestowed the Statue Of Liberty to the US on the 100th year of their revolution. A beautiful iconic gift revered by most Americans. In WW1, 1917, When the UK & France were beleagured; a field officer from the AEF in Pershing's staff shouted: LA FAYETTE,WE ARE HERE! As they landed. Remembering a debt owed to France. Peace.

  • Thank you SO much for uploading this! I had recorded the movie on paytv so I could watch it a more decent time, and of course the program stopped just as Louie tells Rick it'll be a good idea for him to leave Casablanca. I know it was only a few more seconds, but they are some of the best seconds in film history and I just had to hear them again :)

  • @DanteDMCry Doubtful-- he had six wives. But ya never know. I'm a lesbian and I have a thing for Claude...

  • @DanteDMCry I don't know but his character definitely is (for Rick anyway). I just got the actor and character confused for a second. ^-^

  • @squidloveful is Claude Rains gay?!
