The 1965 Musical "The Sound of Music" was very different from the real life events it was based on.

Author Stephen Schochet is a professional tour guide in Hollywood who years ago began collecting little known, humorous anecdotes to tell to his customers. His new book Hollywood Stories: Short, Entertaining Anecdotes About the Stars and Legends of the Movies! The book contains a timeless treasure trove of colorful vignettes featuring an amazing all-star cast of icons including John Wayne, Charlie Chaplin, Walt Disney, Jack Nicholson, Johnny Depp, Shirley Temple, Marilyn Monroe, Marlon Brando, Errol Flynn, and many others both past and contemporary. Tim Sika, host of the radio show Celluloid Dreams on KSJS in San Jose has called Stephen, "The best storyteller about Hollywood we have ever heard." Available at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, or wherever books are sold. For more information go to http://www.hollywoodstories.com

  • maria really loved her husband very much! i have heard that she could see his grave from a window from the house she lived in because she couldnt bare to be too far away from him.xxxx

  • You are right; in the story I was talking in the story about the time of their marriage and and said "Young Maria". Here is the quote from Maria's autobiography: ""I really and truly was not in love. I liked him but didn't love him. However, I loved the children, so in a way I really married the children. . . . [B]y and by I learned to love him more than I have ever loved before or after." I should have added that she came to love him in the story.

  • htale: You're a real downer...Why not leave The Sound of Music as it was portrayed in this movie? The movie's story such as it is, is plain love.

Christopher Plummer and Julie Andrews and all the children actors are showed us this. It's a Christmas movie in our house because of this.

    Why mess with it?

  • I met Werner Von Trapp from the 3rd generation in 1990 and he said Captain Von Trapp never changed and always stayed stern.

  • @paiwanhan Yes, he was handsome, as was his first cousin, who was my great grandfather.

  • @paiwanhan The real Georg was 25 years older than Maria. According to Maria's declaration of intention and petition for naturalization, they were married on November 26, 1927, and their first child was born on February 8, 1928. Do the math.

  • What is this ? Some sort of a "Pull 'em down and laugh" program ? ?

  • actually the real Georg von trapp looked pretty good. he was probably just older when maria met him...
