I'm already loving this challenge, because this is only the 5th boss and I can already say my trademark line: If you don't know his attack pattern, you will die and it will hurt.

This is his attack pattern when he's got more than 50% HP left:

1. Bubble
2. Bubble
3. Cyclone
4. Nothing for several turns (counter attack stance in the beginning)
5. Repeat

Below 50% HP:

1. Cyclone
2. Cyclone
3. Yes Indeed!
4. Nothing for several turns (counter attack stance in the beginning)
5. Repeat

The attacks are not the problem here, as they all target one character and don't deal too much damage. Cyclone will always kill Crono, but Marle can survive them all, including two Bubbles. This is when you probably think soloing the battle with Marle would be a good idea, but no. He's just too fast. He will always use two of the three attacks in between Marle's turns, so it's simply impossible for her to solo the battle once he's got less than 50% HP left. So, when you get that far, you must have Crono there to eat one of the attacks.

To sum it up, this battle requires a solid strategy and there's no luck involved at all. That makes it a great battle, and we can thank the Dual Character rule for that. It would have been much easier with three characters. The battle was fought on the lowest battle speed at Wait mode, something that will most likely be the case with all battles from now on. The video is also sped up slightly, as the battle took over 12 minutes.

Crono: Level 1
Marle: Level 4

Some additional info: Before this battle, I fought Spekkio several times to learn all the Dual Techs. Spekkio is incredibly easy in his first form and is not worth showing. I also went to the Dactyl Nest and picked up the Meso Mail, but it doesn't make any significant difference in this battle.

Also, when I redid the Factory with the right characters to take the EXP, I got a battle with 5 Acids on my first attempt. This battle gives the least amount of EXP, and the chance of getting it is only 1/32, so I got very lucky. However, I'm not really aiming for the lowest EXP here, so I didn't really need it.

  • I remember the second phase of this battle being pretty intense in an LLG with three characters available, actually. Great job on managing to do it without Lucca.

  • But you probably fought him on a higher battle speed, or what?

  • One of my favorite trademark lines are"you're gonna die a lot"..

  • Try playing EarthBound.

  • How does i troll success successfully?

  • And how exactly would you do that in a battle with a fixed attack pattern? In this battle, you have to wait three turns until you get a chance to provoke an all party attack, and the third character is likely to get hit before that anyway. Not to mention the bosses that don't have any all party attacks.

  • Weeeeellll... To make it official, I would have forced an all party attack, so that way, nobody was being used as a shield.

  • @Arcterious That is correct. Otherwise, I would have let him kill himself before doing anything. So, in this challenge, I will simply make sure the third character enters the battle with so little HP, he/she dies by one attack. There's really no other way to do it.

  • As a kid, I always thought Slash was saying "Pain! Yes indeed!!" (with text at max speed, I always swore he said it but I just kept missing it because it went by too fast), so, that made the attack all the more bad-ass for me... XD

  • Mmm maybe you're right. I guess that slipped my mind.

  • @Arcterious: Now, I haven't played Chrono Trigger in a long while but if I remember correctly, you can't attack yourself.

@Garland: Great work as always, keep it up! 5/5 :3

  • Uhh... Robo can attack himself?
