I love this scene, but i think everyone agrees this movie was terrible as far as action goes.

@nomak stars are not billions of light years apart...closest star to our star is 2 light years away and sum are only 10-20 light years away. you should really re read what those scientists said.Second of all this is science fiction and if he really was travelling faster than speed of light he would be a time traveller:)

in the comic superman has flown between galaxies in hours, he can fly at the speed of plot.
also, krypton is in another galaxy yes, but i do believe he uses a shortcut of a blackhole/wormhole to get to the milky way faster.

Think about you stated. You said billions of light years.
What that means is, that it takes a billion years of someone traveling at the speed of light to get there.
Therefore no, it doesn't make any sense.
He would have to be traveling much faster then the speed of light.

Since Superman is from another galaxy, how did
the people of Krypton know of earths existence? If is takes so long to travel that a new born can age 5 years whilst in suspended animation, how could cal el have been taught about Einstein, when logically he would have been as born 1,000 of years after his departure? In this one how could earth astronomers detect another planet on another galaxy?
