In-car video of my 2005 GTO catching up to a CTS-V on Road Atlanta. I passed him on the front straight just after the camera shut itself off.

  • Wow, that's a major leak. Mine's not enough to show up on the dipstick, at least not yet. Hopefully it stays under control as I dread taking the transmission back out again.

  • Gotcha, I had a ton of fun! I noticed the CTS was blowing a ton of carbon out of the exhaust, do you have it running rich for some reason? My rear main is leaking too, I didn't notice how much until I got home and checked the car over really well. I'll have to keep an eye on it, but the level is still good so I think it will be ok.

I was wondering how I passed him so easily, not going above 4k definitely explains it.

  • I lost over a qt of oil out of the seal on the drive home to Ohio. Time for a new harmonic balancer and seal. Going with an aftermarket underdrive pulley and seal this time. Maybe it won't start leaking within 6 months this time!

  • Yeah, running too rich between 3000 and 3600 rpms my long term fuel trims have been going positive lately and causing the rich condition during power enrichment. Has a little to do with the different atmospheric conditions between Atlanta and here in Ohio too. Didn't have much time to tune it properly prior to heading to the track.

  • Cool short vid. Were you running in the novice or intermediate group? That was my V, it was pulling double duty that day and leaking oil out of the crankshaft seal. My buddy drove it in the novice group and wasn't reving past 4000 rpm due to the oil leaking at high rpms. It sure was a fun day at the track, hope you enjoyed it too.
