7th avenue - Albany GA

Albany is known for its beautiful avenues. We call them "the avenues" locally and most people travel them daily back and forth between Slappey and Jefferson. Years ago trees were planted along the sides of these streets to form a huge canopy.

Ahh, memories. The family home was on W. Tift, near Albany High. As a kid, I can remember the green canopy overhead, the big grassy lawns, and of course Maryland Fried Chicken, oh, and who can foget Jimmie's Hotdogs downtown. Is that still there? Anyways, Albany was a very different place, a beautiful place, but crime took over. Sad really, but I want to remember the good stuff about the Artesian City.

@psychotriaboy ...oh yes, jimmmies is still there, exactly like it was. same counter and everything. crime took over, for sure. albany is home but i miss the old days when it seemed smaller, and you saw people around town you knew. now it seems all i see are strangers. remember cruising slappey drive? lol do you remember artic bear? pearly's is still there.

@angusbonscott ...albany ga is named after albany ny but i think that is the only link. albany ga is a quaint town on a river, very old south heritage which is both good and bad. it is a very comfortable size. it has charm, but crime is getting worse here
