Carjacking chase suspect crashes gate at Love Field - Dallas

A nearly hour long police chase with a carjacking-robbery suspect ended Thursday afternoon on an active runway at Dallas Love Field.

A 48-year-old Dallas man was sentenced to 22 1/2 years in federal prison Wednesday for nearly running over a security guard as he led police on a pursuit that ended on the runways of Love Field Airport.

Michael Laurence Browne, 48, pleaded guilty in August to a federal charge of interference with security screening personnel after he crashed through an airport guard shack on Aug. 19, 2010 - the culmination to a crack cocaine-induced carjacking spree through North Texas.

"I never intended to hurt anyone," Browne told U.S. District Judge Barbara Lynn at his sentencing hearing. "I'm sober now and can see the stupid things I've done."

Browne, who has a history of mental illness, also has state charges pending in Dallas, Tarrant and Collin counties for a spree of robberies, officials said. His extensive past criminal history of robbery and theft played a role in Wednesday's sentencing, the judge said.
