If not mistaken, believe there are 100+ recordings by alma Gluck. A very gifted artist, one of the best sellers in her day, rivaling both Caruso and McCormack in sales. Thank you, Paulo!

  • Dear Daug,

Very sweet voice. I feel melancholic again. The photo is well chosen. Really lovely.

    Many thanks for uploading.

    Best regards

    Hi Satoko:

Melancholic? (and so early in the morning?)

As always... many thanks for the kind words!

    Very Best.

    Doug --

  • Gluck is especially touching from 2:57 onwards. Thank you, Doug, for this lovely recording, beautifully presented.

And to think she was active for what? perhaps 10 years, forced to retire due to vocal problems in the early-mid 1920s. During this period the critics were having a difficult time being complimentary. Her discography from 1920-1924 shows take after take after unissued take. Still, such an astonishing, glowing, wonderful, beautiful legacy.

  • Alma Gluck always sang with uncompromising interpretive insight in a voice so

inviting she makes even the most trifling songs poetic, compelling and true!

    Thank you for posting!

  • Hi Doug,

  • @Bivolari

  • Beautiful, Doug! Thanks.

  • I don't recall a single recording by Alma Gluck that didn't bring me some pleasure. Her lovely tone as well as her phrasing and shading are the reasons why Gluck's singing is so charming and real. I admire Tetrazzini's recording of the song, but more for her technique than sorrowful expression; in the case of Gluck, her technical skills are used more effectively to elicit the mood of the piece. Thanks for sharing, Doug!
