This is a very interesting look, but we can all be glad it didn't air this way.

  • Did you know there was a 2nd pilot of the 1984 set they used before its 1st show? That pilot featured Jack Campion who was a 2-time champion with $17,600. Oh and that was also Johnny Gilbert's first unaired show to announce the 2nd pilot.

  • @cruiseshipz Yes; In fact, I have that pilot. I plan to upload it soon enough.

  • They probably didn't go with this, because it probably would look dated quickly. Merv wanted this show to last awhile, and updating the look would definately be costly.

    That's my theory.

  • It seems to be so much like the Art Fleming version. In this day and age, Alex never talks about anyone being "in jeopardy" or "out of jeopardy." Also, he never talks about "the correct question." He says "The correct response is 'what is...'"

  • The First Pilot would have made it to NBC (if King World, Inc. didn't sell the pilot) and if that happen they would have aired right after $ale of the Century (with Jim Perry) and right before Wheel of Fortune (with Pat Sajak and Vanna White; another Merv Griffin Show) and would have brought back Frisco Disco as a close in the '83 Jeopardy Revival and Alex Trebek would have made a comeback to host an NBC Game Show, but the 2nd pilot did it right and shot for Syndication.

  • BTW, the scores at the end of Final Jeopardy, if the values were equal to those that were used when the show made it to air(they'd be 4 times what they were in the pilot) would be Cynthia with $8,300, Jack with $4,400 and Karen with $8,500.

  • Played liked original Art Fleming hosted version, and, today's edition. Not crazy about set, and, actually prefer method of today's players writing down wagers and answers on telestrator tablets as opposed to markers on paper tablets.

  • Is there a clean version of this show?
