Beartooth Highway is Hwy 212 and crosses the Wyoming and Montana border. Open only between May and September, it has been called America's Most Beautiful Road by Charles Kuralt. It is also the highest elevation road in the Northern Rockies. When you ride Beartooth Highway, you will be in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness at almost 11,000 feet with twenty peaks around you over 12,000 feet. Stunning is simply not a strong enough word to describe the views from this road. Weather is unpredictable and must be respected. In 2010 they have just finished resurfacing most of this pass and the roads are amazing.

On the West Summit, just as you cross the Montana border going north, there is a rest area called Rock Creek Vista. There are facilities here and of course the views are breath-taking. From here down is a 4,000 foot drop of switch back turns....a real bucket list road for all motorcyclists. It is so steep rock slides can take out the road for an entire season like the one you see in this video in 2005.

I'm going to do another video on Beartooth Highway, and today just take you down the West Summit, down from Rock Creek Vista to this road that leads into Red Lodge Montana. Let's Ride. (See my blog at www.MyTwoWheelTouring.com)

  • My son and I rode Beartooth Highway during the summer of 2011. There was a LOT of snow; so much the view was blocked in many areas, but the ride was amazing!

  • @kkechter Hi Kkechter, we rode it July 7th this year also and there was snow well over our heads, but it was all clear. The Rockies has record snow fall last winter and Beartooth along with Yellowstone and Tetons etc. were all green, streams over flowing and beautiful. Not sure the snow ever fully melted on BTH. I have a great photo of us riding BTH in July, but no way to post here, I"ll put on my blog at some point.

  • @kkechter my new blog is at MyTwoWheelTouring . com. check it out. enjoy

  • I love this road! We drove that in a huge 40ft RV. Those twists and turns were quite exhilarating in such a huge vehicle thinking we where going to fall off. I would have loved it on a motorcycle! I have talked about this road to others ever since and I am so happy to come across your video. Now I can revisit when ever I want. Good job! P.S I love Red Lodge!
