IF the "Germanic vandals" were attacked FIRST by Rome (and I am aware that Rome tried unsuccessfully to conquer Germania) then the Vandals may have INDEED been REACTING TO that (hypothetical at this point) aggression when, and because the opportunity arose, they later looted Rome AS A POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCE of that HYPOTHETICAL previous drawing of "first blood." thats not what you are saying. you are saying that the vandals didnt attack due to blowback since the romans never attacked scandinavia. Well we all know that they never attacked scandinavia but they did attack the peoples LIVING IN germania. One of the peoples being the vandals and the romans did attack them there first. So Scandinavian vikings had nothing to do with what happened. Genetics doesnt make them the same culture or language or change where and when they lived. wheres your case here?

You are missing the whole point of people of scandinavian decent living in GERMANY were not vikings from scandinavia. lets say they are migrants from scandiavia, which isnt proven but im still open too, they werent there anymore. the lived in the german lands the romans attacked the vandals and the vandals attacked back. In your mind we are talking about two unrelated groups who happened to be recorded by a few historians. Most scholars would agree with you!

What I am saying is this: If we could take DNA samples (IF we could) we MIGHT find that the Vandals and the Vikings were almost the SAME stock of people -- who popped up in history several hundred years apart.

I LIKE the Vandals! I think history has OVERLOOKED the HUGE impact of these SCANDANAVIAN tribes on European society!

i didnt say they ALL looted monasteries thats irrelevant. I am saying thats the first time the vikings showed up in western history books. you cant sum up all people of scandinavian decent as vikings. the reason they attacked rome at first was they were fighting back the roman incursion into their lands. The lands in germany they lived on in germany ! scandinavia has nothing to do with it and neither does vikings. The vandals may or may not have migrated from there it makes no differance.
