"Black Swan" is directed by Darren Aronofsky and stars Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, and Vincent Cassel. This dark drama seamlessly moves between fantasy and reality while Natalie Portman provides a truly haunting performance. The film was more than I bargained for and wound up sticking with me long after the credits rolled. A follow-up written review will be on http://www.criticnic.com shortly!

  • errrr.. you are aware that aronofsky didn't make up the story of white swan and black swan right? and that the film is inspired in swan lake one of the best ballet plays, which was composed by tchaikovsky?

i believe you should have mentioned the actual theme of the film, which is quite complex... that lily character represented black swan and the film is about the obsession about perfection and how far an artist goes for its art! and no black swan isnt a horror film...

  • @vesperlovett I think everyone's heard of Swan Lake my friend...I never once suggested that DA wrote the concept.

I did talk about the theme as I saw it. and it is what I would call a true horror film, Aronofsky ever refers to his movies as horror. that of course is all opinion though. thanks for the comment.

  • Please review True Grit. It's directed by the Coen Brothers and is out now. Thanks.

  • @gl96 I will definitely try! It's been on my list to see for a while.

  • @criticnic I've seen it twice! Haha I absolutely love it!

  • @Mrsblessed101 that's a tough call..the only questionable scene that comes to my mind involves a girl/girl sex scene, which doesn't show much of anything but of course you can use your imagination. that scene in particular is crucial to the plot in revealing things about the main character though. Personally I think it would be okay for a 16 year old but of course I'm not a parent :)

  • @criticnic Is it to over the top for my 16 year old daughter to see?

  • @mrgrizzlymosher you're welcome! yeah I hear ya, I'm very selective with what I will pay to see at the theater but this one really did blow me away. thanks for the comment!

  • @Mrsblessed101 thank you! well I gotta say the experience of seeing it in the theater with that amazing music will be hard to be on home video, but still I think you're gonna enjoy it. Thanks for the comment!

  • Great review!! As soon as this comes out on video I am going to run out and pick it up. Cant wait to see it! Erica
