A year ago I recorded this video.. It shows my fluxbox as it was.

Fluxbox is a lightweight window manager. If you don't need all the fanciness of kde or gnome.. and enjoy working fast, this is it.

You can mix all the applications you want, don't matter if they are part of the kde base (let's say, kate, dolphin, ..) or gnome ( right now none :D). Assign keyboard and mouse shortcuts to commands, ..

Here I show some time wasters I got there.. Fire to represent CPU, memory and network usage, some docklets, and mpd with sonata. I don't use them anymore (just conky and spotify, times change), but were useful..

  • the good old days - i used to run slackware with blackbox back then. enlightenment was a fav second =]

today i run fluxbox - not because it's light weight - but because it's so damn customizable! you've done a very good job there!

  • It's a WMM not an operating system if you meant "Windows" you're thinking of NT vs. Gnome, KDE, Fluxbox managers.

Though I like IceWMM and XFCE.

  • @Tobiash87 it suggest to TRY fluxbox, not to MUST try fluxbox, and kde sucks for its "ergonomic" stucture.

  • Good for old PC's. I have gentoo with KDE on my i7 and it runs as fast as I'll ever need.

  • I like fluxbox, but Im using PekWM + dzen2. Still very lightweight but PekWM feels a little more comfortable to work with :)

  • @fakenstein666 you mean xfce? dumbass.

  • what about xface , dumbass?

  • i will never be tired of kde :D

  • i prefer using a DE. not too worried about being lightweight. as long as your hardwares up to date it would be good. i may try using flux box next time i need to speed up a junker.

one question, what is it you guys prefer about just fluxbox? (functionality wise) because I just couldn't deal with it.

  • Hi!

I'm using fluxbox and like it so much. However, I don't know how to set up Volume by hot key like you do. Please tell me the trick.

    Thank you very much!
