Warrior Foundation helps wounded warrriors integrate back into society. www.warriorfoundation.com Bio About John Michael Garcia was raised in the Bronx, New York from a family of 4 boys and from the age of 18 he joined the USMC. He did his training at Paris Island and then was sent to Camp Pendleton. His original job was to be a cook and then from there they elected him to go to machine gunner school. He was deployed to Iraq in 2003-2004 and then again in 2005-2006. During both deployments he sustained injuries but the second deployment is the one that placed in the care of NMCSD. There he stayed as a patient up in med hold for about a year and a half. He was involved in several different I.E.D. explosions which gave him brain damage to his right frontal lobe. Some of his injuries are several pinched/bulging disks in his back, severe PTSD, almost no cartilage left in his knees, and memory loss. While he was in the hospital recovering from his injuries he married his wife, Courtney Garcia, and had a beautiful baby girl named Leilani whom is now 2 years old. In April of 2007, he was medically retired at the age of 23 and the rank of Sergeant. One of the many awards/medals the he has received is the Purple Heart. He is 100% disabled through the VA and was told that he would more than likely not ever have somewhat of a normal life due to the injuries that he had sustained. Well, never tell a Marine never, for he is a true success story, motivated by his family and friends he has a full-time job, that he has kept since he retired from the military, is in pursuit of getting his college degree and has ambitions of going into public office. Against all odds, he is over coming his injuries to the best of his ability and is living life to the fullest.
