Eunice Kathleen Waymon (aka Nina Simone) is going back home after long years. Her mother, Mary-Kate Waymon (preacheress for 57 years) is happy, while Nina and her daughter, Lisa Lawson are playing Rudy Stevenson's "I'm going back home".

From the film "Nina Simone The Legend"
(written and directed by Frank Lords, presented by LA Sept & System TV in association with the BBC (1991), broadcasted in Hungary by Duna TV)

"All music is what awakes within us
when we are reminded by the instruments;
It is not the violins or the clarinets -
It is not the beating of the drums -
Nor the score of the baritone singing
his sweet romanza; not that of the men's chorus,
Nor that of the women's chorus -
It is nearer and farther than they.-"
Lovingly,
- Eunice Waymon -
Age 12
(From the cover of the LP "Nina Simone: Here Comes The Sun" (RCA Victor))

You can reach a 95 minutes long memorial mix (first part) with 40 songs and excerpts here (mix & tracklist):

  • Very touching! Does anyone know what is the song which she sings "going back home" ?

  • It is Rudy Stevenson's "I'm going back home" as mentioned above, under the "more info". Btw it can be heard on Nina's marvellous High Priestess of Soul album (1967), just after the song Take me to the water, as in the memorial mix too, which i've linked now at the end of the description too.

  • Rudy Stevenson past away this morning. He was like my father.Words can not explain .It seems so unreal i wanna call him but he wont answer no more.Thank u Rudy thank u so much for everything u did for me.I allready miss u so much!!!I can't imagine singing the blues without you.U taught me so much.I will always love you!!!And I will always carry you in my heart!!!My mind is with his son Wynton and his brothers and Lyah.

  • @VivienCutino Oh i'm very sorry for hearing it :(, RIP Mr Stevenson.

  • No it's kate Waymon, Nina's mum.

I'm not quite sure, but the young girl beside her looks like Lisa ,nina's daughter.

Nina looks beautifull and really happy.makes me feel good :
