"It's a privilege to still be alive, even though I was told I wouldn't be, because we understand so much more.

"And we're learning more about it, so I think the idea that we have to totally conquer our diabetes and do everything right at once is an insult to anyone's integrity. You do it one step at a time."

Her family "is more centered on diabetes, but not focused on it."

"The most important thing to remember about diabetes is that you can do it your own way. Diabetes has a little bit of forgiveness. You can make a mistake and not die from it. If you can learn from it you will do well."

  • Hi Eileen. I really enjoyed your Video. I too have been a diabetic for 45 years diagnosed at 9 years old.

    I have had a lot of heart trouble but I am feeling good at the moment. You can watch my EECP videos on youtube and in the more info there is a link to my blog.
