The Husband was published in 2006 and I read it that year after my uncle gave it to me. This was the first book I read from Koontz, and the first non-King book I read for fun in a while. The cover and blurbs on the dust jacket gave me extremely high hopes. But as it would turn out, this is not Koontz at his best.

  • The Bad Place was deans koontz best book.

  • @icookforlove I'll check it out next time I'm able. I'm sure I saw it at Borders a month ago. I hope it's still there.

  • I don't have a problem with books about humans vs. humans. But I hate how badly the last fight was written. Ugh. A motorcycle through a house? Really?

  • @ccsdavis1 Should've been an extended gunfight, but that's not Koontz's style anymore. I dunno if you read Darkest Evening of the Year, and the Odd Thomas books but they are all long on narrative and short on action.

He did extended gunfights for Lightning back in the 80s.

    Damn I loved that book....

  • And I don't know how seriously Koontz takes reviews. Relentess, another book of his, was about a writer being stalked by a sociopathic reviewer.

  • @CombatOasis Bestselling authors these days have a huge problem when it comes to publishing deadlines. I think six month periods or even twelve month periods can be draining. Check Lightning out if you don't already have it and compare it to the Husband. A similiar range of pages, but Lightning has probably twice if not three times as much text as The Husband, which requires double-spacing and the 30 or 40 chapter headings that eat up 45% percent of a page.
