The Dominion took over the Dyson Sphere, hoping to use it as an unlimited power source that would provide them with all the energy they would ever need.
Thousands of Dominion ships barricaded themselves inside the sphere and started building shipyards and Jemhadar breeding camps. Their plan was to produce a massive fleet inside the Sphere and later to emerge when no one would be able to stop them.
Starfleet devised a plan to destroy the sphere by collapsing its unstable star. For that task they sent the Galaxy Class USS Challenger which was equipped with the Prototype Phase Cloak which would enable it to get into the sphere through its hull and open the gate for the squadron of cloaked Klingon ships waiting outside. Together they would catch the Dominion by surprise and destroy the Sphere before the Dominion has a chance to evacuate their massive forces.

@mlwwlm replicators do turn energy into matter. but it takes enormous amounts of energy to create even small amounts of matter

Wouldn't they just use replicators? Replicators turn energy into matter, don't they?
It would take time, but all they would need to do is replicate enough replicators.

What the hell am I even looking at here? None of this will ever fit into the DS9 canonical story arc. Is this the war as it happened after Abrams fucked Star Trek up?
