Directed by Henrik Galeen
Conrad Veidt - Balduin, a student
Werner Krauss - Scapinelli, a money lender
Balduin, a poor student, makes a Faustian pact with a money lender, Scapinelli. In return for a fortune, enough to court the woman of Balduin's dreams, Scapinelli is permitted to take one thing belonging to the student... the reflection in his mirror.
Wish someone would put great music to this! Polonaises and dramatic, unclear instrumentals. . . .

the reflection walking out of the mirror +scapinelli's shadow is great as is the amazing Strange shot of scapinelli standing on the cliff with his umbrella by a twisted tree, but the rest fo this does drag a bit.not as great as"the golem"(1920)or as"vampyr,"the man who laughs."like the image of the grinning ghoul/vampyr in"london after midnight" this film is mostly about that image of scapinelli on the cliff. except the plot here is better than the hokey detective plot of "london after midnight."
