In this episode we interview Brian Dalton, a former member of the LDS church, and founder of the Mr. Deity Internet TV series -- which explores religious belief from a skeptical point of view, using satire. Mr. Deity focuses on the every-day life God, and everything He must endure has he attempts to manage his creation.

In part 1, we discuss Brian's early years, his experience with the LDS church, his disaffection from the church, his views on religion, and the making of Mr. Deity. Towards the end, we are very blessed to spend a few minutes with Mr. Deity himself.

  • “The greatest tragedy in mankind's entire history may be the hijacking of morality by religion.” Arthur C Clarke

  • The Deity is too funny. He loves people of color. I believed him until I realized I've never seen one on his shows! Then I thought maybe he meant he loved them from a distance.

  • I think this is the first time I've heard the Mr. Deity theme song actually play out. Ring tone...

  • A Mr. Deity sitcom? Oh please, God, make that happen. Amen.

  • @NorwayRichard Given that the Mormon belief system claims that Native Americans came from Israel and scientific studies that demonstrate clearly by looking at the DNA sequences of people that they came across

from China, the probability that Mormonism is right is probably extremely small. That is, the DNA studies have a probability of error (eg sequencing error) but that's maybe 1 in a million. They looked at hundreds of people so that probability must be raised to hundreds, 1 in 100,000,000.

  • I am really surprised he is on here.I'm a fan of his because of his story.

  • @NorwayRichard If you read my statement to completion, I said he thinks nobody has the answers..."well except for him". The last part being key to the statement. I don't think that I have the answers, nor to I look to anyone else. I was just stating my opinion on this episode. I probably could have left out the sarcasm, I didn't enjoy the podcast, he wasn't very likable to me and I didn't think added anything interesting. Just my opinion. Pro LDS or con doesn't matter to me.

  • @meknewxenu yep well thats atheists for ya! That statement is gonna offend someone isn't it?

  • @sulljoh1 sorry, I guess I'm just that illinformed!
