UPDATE (2/16/2011): no bragging or anything, but I'm a systems engineering student, hence I'm quite familiar with the inside of a PC. So the update is this: I left the computer to rest for well over three months since I had no time to get it fixed whatsoever. After that, I plugged the power in and turned it on and then the infinite cycle began: turned on then off, turned on again then off again, on & off, and so on, nothing new about that. I left it in that cycle for 20+ minutes. Then I did the ESCAPE KEY trick and forced it to stop the cycle & stay on. I left the computer in that turned-on-but-doing-nothing state (monitor off but the fan still spinning) for over 5 minutes, and then... POOF! white & black lines showed all over the screen, leading me to believe that it's a video chip issue indeed. Since it only showed me white lines and did nothing, I disconnected the power, reconnected it and guess what?! Yup! To my surprise THE COMPUTER BOOTED! Unfortunately, after 10 minutes of use, the whole screen turned black, showed other color lines and the computer freezed - same thing that triggered this whole situation, but after the good ol' unplug-&-plug-the-power technique, the pc booted normally and I'm still using it to this day (a few days after the repair actually lol) though with a fan cooler under it. However, this is a short term solution to a bigger problem. The issue may still very well be there. Sooner or later I'm afraid my computer will just collapse again. Hope this helps! Any updates will be posted here. Cheers!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

This strange behavior started a couple of months ago, and I did the following: I disconnected the power cord, removed the HDD, and let the laptop rest upside down for a couple of weeks, then I installed the HDD again and it booted. I was able to use my computer as usual, no strange things. Everything was apparently OK. After 2 weeks of use the same weird behavior started out, only this time it doesn't seem it's gonna boot at all. I have tried all sorts of things like cleaning the fan, opening up the case and disconnecting the mobo, and I even smacked the back of the pc a few times lol. I also tried the penny thing after browsing around in forums everywhere: I put a penny on the GPU to apply pressure since it looks as if it detached from the mobo because of overheating issues. Still nothing. I need some help, please, other than buying another laptop. Oh, my warranty's up. Thanks!

  • I just uploaded a video on this asking for help. I'll let you know.

  • @mansitopinta Okay. My computer works "fine" for now though. I updated the video description with a little workaround that might help you out. At least it worked for me. However, the sound is gone and my guess is that i could have left unplugged some audio cable in the disassembling process. Yeah, I know, my bad. Anyway, this trick is a temporary solution. I don't think it repaired the problem in the bigger picture, so I'm just waiting for the day my computer walks out on me again. Sigh.

  • @Romi260986 Yeah, That's my way of fixing it too. Sometimes it takes 20 minutes of Cycle, and once I left it for 15 hours. Had to send it to the Evil technician to fix it :'(

Any ways, could you do a video on how you opened and checked it and everything? I know, i ask of this shamelessly , lols

  • @mansitopinta yes I could. Whenever I have some spare time I'll do it and i will let you know. If your warranty is up, look at it this way: You've NOTHING to lose buddy

  • I think you fixed it, but I had a similar issue, my compaq presario f700 (f730US actually) did what your's did, my fix was to remove the power adapter, then boot it up, then after I see the bios screen, I just plug it in again. Its a wierd quirk, but what computer doesn't have them?

  • im having this issue, and i dont know what to do, my pc started crashing and failing while playing games, after crashing twice it no longer boots at all im sure its a graphics card problem based on whats happened,in general how much would it cost to fix something like this? if i need the chip replaced that is, will be taking it to a local repair shop soon, but i wanna know what im in for.

  • I have the same problem.Occurred on Black Friday.Called HP Support to order some spare parts like a new fan and On/Off switch.Kind of expensive. They were willing to fix it for $350.00, if I sent it in.Might as well buy a new laptop. So my laptop is in pieces with the hard drive removed. It appears all my data is intact on the hard drive,at a glance. It also seems I may have a virus of some sort or the fan malfunctioned and is running in a safety mode preventing the board from starting up.(I think.)

  • I think you should heat up the computer. It works.

  • THANKS SOOOOOO MUCH! This actually solved my problem I can't believe that it worked!

  • lol, my bro has the same laptop buthis is a HP G7000, the dude always breaks his Power Jack, and u hav tu take all the parts out,, even mobo, to get it out, its a shity pocess

  • i swear that is happing to me but my screen turns on

  • For me you have to remove the components one at a time more accessible (hdd, ram, cmos battery, wifi card) and each time you do you start the PC.

if you can access the bios is possible that the offending party to be the last one you removed. tips will last for the ram .. if you hear the 4 beeps do not be alarmed.

may have created a slight mass does not start anything is blocking the machine.

  • disassemble the entire computer including the processor, clean the fan and of 'clean air to the processor fan.

I so have solved the same problem, but it seems to me that the wifi does not respond ... I have to check.

    good luck
