The Cathedral of Deir Anba Bishoy in Wadi Natrun.

A Coptic priest performs a portion of the liturgy during preparations for the communion service.

This was part of the "transubstantiation" as the wine and bread are transformed into the body and blood of Christ. The big "bundle" in the center of the altar contains the bread and wine.

The Coptic language is as close as we can come to hearing the sound of the ancient Egyptian language.

  • Thank you for the clarification. I've heard conflicting things on this point. Both in what I've read and in what my coptic friends have told me.

One coptic friend has show me a picture of the Coptic Pope praying over bread that does seem to have changed into "flesh" - it's a very mysterious image.

Again - thanks for the clarification.

    Many Blessings!

  • this father name is Fr Yonan , God bless all of us

  • small correciton, Copts don't believe in the 'transsubstantion' (meaning the actual substance changing), we do believe though that in a mysterious way (which is why the sacraments are also referred to as mysteries) the bread and wine turn into the real blood and flesh of the Lord Jesus Christ..
