Harry Shalson -- a popular British entertainer and vocalist, recording solo and with the best British dance bands of the 1920s/30s (e.g. Ambassadors Orchestra, Ronnie Munro's, Maurice Winnick's, Piccadilly Players). Composer of popular songs: Moon Of My Dreams, Live And Let Live, Poor Little Me-Wonderful You. In 1920s the recording companies (Imperial, later Brunswick and Zonophone/HMV) were billing him as „England's First Whispering Vocalist" (undoubtedly a comparison to Whispering Jack Smith on the other side of the Atlantic) which title later evolved into „England's Whispering Baritone".
Recording: With My Gitar And You (Snyder/Harris) - Harry Shalson, baritone, acc. by The Rhythmic Eight (Carroll Gibbons-p,dir, Norman Payne-t, Danny Polo-cl, Laurie Payne-as,bar, -g,-sb,-d) Zonophone (HMV) 1930
Wonderful...
My great aunt married one of the Piccadilly Players...who he sung with.

Charming rendition. I did not know Harry Shalson and he is a pleasant discovery for me. Beautiful presentation as always. Thank you

Delightful to hear the solo, albeit brief, by that great tumpeter Norman Payne, one of the most convincing Bix Beiderbecke disciples.

A lovely warm, unrushed fox. A voice with a nice glow. HMV's illustration of the man in the deck chair and the lady by the gramophone will make a great poster.
