The new 7000-rail car is edging closer to full scale production. The "hard" full scale model is here for Metro engineers and employees to review, critique and finalize before full, mass production begins. This represents a major milestone in this project's timeline and we welcome our customers to take this look.

These look pretty nice much better use of space and they finally got rid of the carpet. I just hope the seats are plastic or vinyl covered. Some of the recent replacement cars seats have been foam covered in cloth. That essentially makes them cloth covered sponges, holding any spilled liquid within them until an unsuspecting commuter sits down to get a nasty surprise. Disgusting.

Wish the seats aligned alongside the walls as opposed to popping out (similar to NYC). That way, more people can cram into the train carts during rush hour.

Also, hopefully WMATA will install a pre-recorded voiceover announcing upcoming train platforms. Dream big!

I agree it looks similar to NYC subway R-160 rail cars. But there still are some stylistic details carried over from the previous WMATA 1k -6k series cars as well.

I would say the same thing, a little resemblance of the frontal part and stainless steel, but a 75-footer as well instead of 60-foot.

Since their are blind riders, trains should have automated destination signs. A voice would say Our next stop is Franconia/Springfield. This stop is Franconia/Springfield. This is a blue line train to Franconia/Springfield

The Rohrs make up 25% of the fleet (290 currently in service). Removing them from service would mean a return to four car trains and no eight car trains during the rush hour. That would cripple a service that's already in decline. The Rohrs will gradually be removed from service as 7K cars arrive and are put into revenue service.

you don't need to wait until they are 35 or 40 years old to retire them and no need to wait for new cars to arrive, retire them now!
