From 52nd to 54th Streets the Hiawatha line tracks run right up the middle of Minnehaha Avenue. This evokes a glimpse of Minneapolis past, when streetcar tracks ran in the streets of every neighborhood. One can wonder what the residents here thought of this recent addition to their street. I would guess that for them it's an improvement over the previous era: for decades this was part of a major highway until that was re-routed. As commerce and traffic here have diminished, the residential character has been strengthened. Already old motels and gas stations have been replaced by new condo buildings. This view is from a southbound train, looking at the odd-numbered side of the street.
