Yes, you can ....to an extent :) Even my nine year old will occasionally decide she just doesn't want to listen, typical!
you DO have to be persistent and always CONsistent. Have you done an obedience class with your mal? It is never to late...my dogs have to earn everything, they learn sit and stay as puppies, and do it for every thing. While they are all headstrong, some malamutes can be extremely headstrong. QUITE a breed now aren't they?

I scoop the yards obsessively.
We fill two buckets a week, and have to cart it to the dump. It's a dirty job, but not bad after you get used to it. :)
