Last Night of the Proms 2009 Royal Albert Hall, 12 September 2009
Mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly performs the song cycle Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen ('Songs of a Wayfarer'), by Gustav Mahler. This is the second movement, "Ging heut Morgen übers Feld" ("I Went This Morning over the Field")
Oh, what a wonderful job, Miss Sarah! You're voice is pure gold. And I love that tight close-up at the end. A fitting way to close that song. You were in the moment! This song is the best of the set, in my humble opinion.

I am so happy to discover this excellent artist. Her phrasing and the nuances seem to emerge from a very honest and believable place. Beautiful voice as well!

The way in which she puts over the change in mood, from the joyful beginning of this movement to its denial at the end, is so moving.
