I was pretty psyched about this pack-job. Got everything into my small Domke bag, weighing probably about 15-20 pounds (probably less):
Nikon D90
Tamron 28-75/2.8
Tamron 14/2.8
Nikon 50/1.8
Nikon SB-26 (w batteries)
2x PocketWizards
Alzo bracket
Collapsible 16" softbox
ring for softbox
Westcott Micro Apollo softbox
cinefoil
grid
body/back caps
Bogen Super Clamp
Nikon flash mount stand
Lens cloth
Business cards
small umbrella (the rain kind)

the only thing I found myself missing were some basic gels; I was dealing with a lot of mixed light, and could've definitely used some help. oh well.

  • Does that Sb-26 work well with the D90?

I just purchased the sb-600 from best buy and I am looking for a second flash

  • The main reason I use SB-26's and SB-80DX's is because they have two crucial features: full manual control (the 26 goes down to 1/64, and the 80 goes down to 1/128) and built-in optical slave/triggers.

So if you're looking to do fancier Nikon CLS-type shooting, I'd suggest an SB-800 or 900 (to use on your camera), and then you can use your 600 as a second flash.

If you're shooting manually (like I do), pretty much any flash will work.

    good luck!

  • Where did you buy that collapsible soft-box from? That is awesome!

  • I got it on ebay.

It's collapsible, and measures about 16" square. Shouldn't cost more than $75 or so.

  • yay, my first hater!

I'd love to see some examples of what's wrong with Tamron glass, if you've got any.

Unfortunately, YouTube doesn't seem to allow URLs in comments. But you can message me directly, if you want to see some of my work.

I'd be curious to see if you can tell which shots were made with Tamron vs. Nikon/Nikkor.

I'm not a wedding shooter, by the way; this was just a favor for a friend.

  • What's wrong with shooting a wedding with a third party lens? It's still a good lens..

  • Well hey...less money spent on glass means more profits!

  • Your video was very helpful. I am shooting my first wedding in a couple of months and am looking for good ideas like the type of pack you were using. Looks like something I will try and pick up.

  • Manual flash all the way man!!!

i use canon system and only have 2 canon flashes wich are compatible with my two digital canon cameras (580exII and 430exII) (the ettl mode (nikon´s ITTL or cls or whatever) the other 4 flashes that i have are one old school 285hv vivitar an canon 430ez a canon 540ez and an sb 25 (also the reason why i watched this video ;D)

I use off camera flash a lot... and also of course in manual and (with radio triggers too)

    strobist ;D

    nice gear BTW...

  • Thank you, Sir!

  • I could not agree more! Thanks, Speck!

  • It's a Lastolite Ezybox hotshoe. Why don't YouTuber's put in all details of what they show and what song is playing if there is music so people don't have to comment and ask.

  • remarkable ability to cram everything into such a tiny bag. Cool
