  • That's an example of extremely dirty (RF-noisy) switching AC to DC power supply unit. Switching power supply units are used because they are cheaper and allow efficient voltage stabilization. Harmonics originated by chopping 120VAC down to 12VDC are all over the MW band. There is a way to filter out all the harmonics above 60Hz. The higher the harmonic frequency the easier is to remove one.

    However noisy switching power supply units like that one should never pass RF noise check!!
