Caplin is just a pleasure to watch. He reminds me of the ancient horses, eohippus. I wonder if maybe capybaras are ancient horses who never evolved. lol that would be cool. If I was an animal, I'd hope to be one of yours! I recently discovered capybaras while doing ratty serfing on the web. (I'm a rat lover) They are really cool!

I don't know if what happened to his mobility is normal for his species but if it isn't you need to drop that vet quick! I feel for the little guy.

I was wondering if Caplin ever experienced the love of another in terms of mating before the neutering or even contact with his kind for social purposes?

No. Caplin was neutered when he was seven months old which is before sexual maturity. Also, I only have one capybara so there was no opportunity.

Is Neptune a new friend, or perhaps a new recruit to Caplin's guinea pig army? The poofy fur... there are no words.
I have it from a good source that President Obama included a passage on capybaras in his inaugural speech, but had to make cuts because the ceremony was running late.

Neptune is a new friend. He belongs to Coral and Carl who are living with us for a little while. Caplin and Neptune love each other. One day Neptune wheeked and Caplin came running.
